all buttoned up (real wedding)

A couple of months ago when I published a button themed inspiration board Casey Fatchett tweeted that he had just shot a REAL button themed wedding! I couldn’t believe my luck when he submitted James and Summer’s gorgeous DIY wedding. All of the details at this wedding are thoughtful, creative, and completely outstanding.

Summer and James were inspired by Sense & Sensibility and went with warm candlelight colors with lots of pinks, creams, champagnes, peaches, taupes and dusty blues. The centerpieces were not too fussy or overdone and the vintage tins were adorable! DIY watercolor paintings served as table numbers and indicated the theme of the favors that the guests would receive, all of which were homemade jams, preserves, pickled items, marmalades. Atop each jar was a hand stamped label and a button – of course!

Ribbons with hand sewn buttons were used on all the bouquets, napkin rings, and boutonnières. Summer and James made sure that their traveling guests were taken care of and provided snack boxes for each of them (complete with little packets of Advil – such a great idea!) And the ultimate personalized touch.. this thoughtful couple created a CD ‘for the ride home’ with each track inspired by a person in their wedding party.

I’m in love with this wedding and I’m pretty sure you will be too!

  1. OMG! LOVE IT ALL! I’ve never seen buttons so thoughtfully and thoroughly woven into a wedding before. The sugar buttons on the cake are so fab. And I’m seriously obsessed with the “let’s grow mold together” sign. That needs to be turned into a t-shirt or a card of some sort . . .

  2. Absolutely loved shooting this wedding – thank you so much for sharing. It was so deeply personal and the details = fantastic!

  3. This is such an adorable wedding. I couldn’t help but smile at the “Let’s grow mold together” sign

  5. What a darling wedding! You can see the bride just beaming with happiness, and I love the buttons and the cute vintage typewriter font cards!

I am the mother of this wonderful bride and I must say she so enjoyed the PROCESS as much as the big day. The button I liked the best is not shown however…..their wedding invitations (formal caligraphy on the outside) were mason jars with fireflies escaping and instead of Mason it said Love….she ordereded them off the internet but then she added a bit of ribbon and hot glued a button to each invitation. Cute as a button for sure! It really set the tone of what was to come.

  7. I absolutely adore the theme of this wedding. What a cute idea and the bride…beautiful!
