You may remember from a month or so ago that I went to The Blogcademy and one of the things that I took away from it was the importance of allowing your blog to grow, and of course, allowing your personality to shine through because people tend to follow bloggers, not blogs. That all got me rethinking my header design because it’s the first thing that someone notices when landing on your page. I wanted to bring some more personality to it and to have it show at a glance that Burnett’s Boards is a fun little blog filled with lots of beautiful inspiration and that yes, the voice behind it would totally rock a pair of glitter antlers.
I am no artist, that’s for sure, so while browsing Etsy for logo designers I saw and fell in love with Jessica’s design work at Devastatingly Darling Decor. She was absolutely amazing to work with (don’t you just love the results?!) and I put together this interview for you to learn more about this creative mastermind!
1. What got you started in your business?
This is going to sound so cheesy!!! But, ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved to illustrate. I spent hours trying to recreate all the Disney characters in my crayons & markers. When I got a little older, my parents realized how passionate I was about art & the creative field in general. They planned a trip to Disney World just so I could see the studios & the traditional cell animators. I fell in love & have been been ever since!
2. What inspires you?
Most of my inspiration comes from observing my daily surroundings. But, I am absolutely in love with anything having to do with music, vintage, nature & the macabre!
3. What do you think are the most important elements when branding a blog?
The logo, of course!!! No, but seriously… even with a good logo/design, the content plays the biggest role. Combine great content with beautiful design and you have a wonderful blog. Having a logo or brand that embodies the spirit of the content is so important. All the other design elements must follow suit as well though. From the logo and font choices, to the borders and icons. Each element is as important as the next. When the blog is complete, you should see a cohesive design that flows nicely and compliments the content.
4. What is in your handbag right now?
Oh my gosh… so much!!! Sometimes I wonder if my right shoulder is going to fall off! I like to be prepared for everything, but it becomes so difficult to find anything once I need it. A few of my favorite items in there at the moment though… my RED fold-up Ray Ban sunglasses, Twilight Woods hand cream and Kat Von D make-up!!!
