vendor spotlight: waterwaif

Please welcome Tara of Waterwaif to the Sponsor Spotlight this week!

What inspires you?

My biggest inspiration has to be the sea. I grew up (and live)  near the ocean in Florida and I draw such immense strength from just being near it. The energy and the beauty of the ocean and the raw power of the waves, the reflection of the sunrise on the water or the glint of moonlight, the sand between my toes, the kiss of sun on my skin. Yes, the beach makes me wax poetic!

How did you get started in your business?

Just before the holidays of ’09, so November 2009-ish, I knew that I had to make some changes in my life. Being a stay-at-home mom isn’t easy but sometimes I think it’s harder when the kids are actually at school and not at home with you anymore! I faced endless days of putting them on the school bus and coming home to look around at the messes generated every day and having no heart or motivation to clean up or do anything. It’s more than just being a terrible housekeeper (which I am). It’s more than just having nothing to fill your days. It’s having nothing to fill your life, outside your family. So I started to paint. And found I loved it. And sold paintings! I invested the money from painting sales into jewelry supplies and never looked back!

What’s in your handbag right now?

I JUST switched purses yesterday so thankfully it’s pretty empty and clean! I’ve got my wallet, car keys, ipod, sunglasses, lipstick, and the ticket stub to the Heart concert I went to last month that I can’t bring myself to throw away yet (they were awesome!)

If you could pick one item from your shop, which is your favorite and why?

My favorites change often, but for the last two months or so (basically since I created them) these earrings have been my favorite: I have to talk myself out of keeping them at least once a week!

I am also really partial to this necklace (and I DO own one of these!):
