disney pixar’s brave elopement

This Disney Pixar’s Brave styled elopement shoot from Bit of Ivory Photography is such a treat! The awesomeness of the red hair and the fact that Amanda is a total doppelganger for Merida (who I’ve heard is becoming a legit and official Disney Princess this summer) aside, be sure to watch for the little arrow card that says ‘we make our own legend!’

I am a big fan of the movie Brave so I fell in love with it straight away. Chelsea, the lady behind the lens at Bit of Ivory Photography has this to say about the shoot:

“I’m a bit of a Pixar fanatic. From Wall-E to Toy Story to Up, I love them all. Two summers ago, when the movie Brave was still in production, a colleague and friend of mine made the mistake of telling me that his fiance was one of the producers for Brave. I thought that I had annoyed the dickens out of him with my questions and fangirl squeals until I saw an overnighted package sitting on my office desk a few days later. And then I cried. Inside was a comfy Pixar shirt and a little sticker. Best. Memory. Ever.

For those of who haven’t seen Brave yet, it’s an original fairy tale about a young girl named Merida who takes her fate into her own hands.

I thought it went along perfectly with the idea of an elopement! I believe all marriages create their own everlasting legends in their own rights…and whisking yourself away to be joined with your soul mate is much like taking your fate into your own hands.

Because I am that nerdy, the details in this shoot have meanings:

- The blue/green tartan I designed in the stationary is loosely based off of the Forbes clan – my own Scottish heritage.

- The announcement wording is contrived with hints of Brave’s own release date and Scottish town names. When I designed it, I had the arrows and letting in mind.

- The fruit tart is both symbolic of what was a turning point/climactic part in the movie AND it’s shortbread. Shortbread is huge in Scotland.”

  1. I LOVE everything about this shoot, even though it has given me a serious case of red hair envy. The tartan and the fruit tarts are such a nice touch. The colors and the dried flowers are also fabulous. My sister went to vet school in Glasgow, and I have wonderful memories of gorging myself on oatcakes and driving through the Scottish Highlands, although the driving part was absolutely terrifying.

  2. What a beautiful shoot, Chelsea! I LOVE the tartan plaid invite you designed and the plaid on his tie. The colors are amazing – browns, coppers, greens – just perfect! Great feature, Sara and Chelsea!
