love elevated – saint lucia wedding symposium

Those of you who follow me on Instagram will already know this but I recently went on a press trip to the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia for the Love Elevated Wedding Symposium and had an absolute blast! That whole island is SO easy to love… I left worrying about whether Hawaii might realize that my heart had been stolen.

Over the course of the next two weeks I’ll be sharing various posts about my time there with images by the wonderful Chelsea of Bit of Ivory Photography – and it’s all kicking off today with a look at what exactly the Love Elevated Wedding Symposium is and what I learned there.

Hosted at Sandals Grande Saint Lucian Spa & Beach Resort, the Love Elevated Wedding Symposium brings together the island’s finest wedding pros in addition to speakers from Saint Lucia, the US, and the UK. This year’s topics were pretty interesting and included things like US Destination Wedding News. What Brides Expect from Destination Weddings, and UK Wedding Trends.

A definite highlight for me (aside from meeting Saint Lucian superstar Chef Nina Compton of Top Chef!!) was hearing Julie Albauch – the host of the ever so popular #WeddingMarketChat. What she shared was invaluable and she was a complete doll.

I’m normally not a numbers fan but there were so many interesting stats presented at this symposium I actually wrote them down to share with you…

DESTINATION WEDDING TRENDS

24% of US weddings are destination weddings

of those…

41% go to the Caribbean
21% go to Mexico
16% go to Hawaii

The average destination wedding has 75 guests.
For international destination weddings it drops to 50 guests.

BRIDES AND TECHNOLOGY

I think we all know that brides are integrating more and more technology into their wedding planning process… but these numbers took even me aback!

Millennial brides account for 83% of all wedding clients.
Millennial brides research more than ever and 57% of that research is done via the web.
64% of brides organize their research and inspiration on Pinterest and 54% of those brides use those pins to communicate their wedding vision to others.
75% of brides connect with brands related to their wedding on social media.

And the very best stat of them all…

94% of brides read wedding blogs at least once a week!

TAKEAWAYS FOR WEDDING PROS

Promptness is important. If you respond to a potential bride within the first 5 minutes you’ll increase your chance of booking by 90%

Because of how much millennial brides research it’s more important than ever to have an updated website, a blog where you regularly share your latest work, and a strong presence on social media.

TAKEAWAYS FOR BRIDES

Saint Lucia should definitely be on your list of places to consider for your destination wedding and / or honeymoon… need convincing? Be sure to check back here over the next two weeks to see why!
