Earlier this year I had the amazing opportunity to design and style a wedding inspiration shoot in the Caribbean at The Landings, St, Lucia with Mikkel Paige Photography and I am beyond thrilled to share it with you here today!
It was a dream come true seeing all of the various aspects of the editorial come together in such a flawless way and in such a perfectly spectacular setting.
The Landings, St Lucia is by far one of the most exquisite luxury resorts I have ever visited. Set against one of the only white sand beaches in all of St. Lucia you couldn’t ask for a prettier backdrop for your destination beach wedding. Plus, the team at The Landings is completely fabulous. They arranged it all (including my more outlandish requests) with such ease!
The Landings is the perfect place for a wedding and/or honeymoon. Their villas are HUGE (the smallest is around 950 sq. feet, the largest is bigger than most mid-sized homes) and all the suites have laundry, fully stocked gourmet kitchens, water views, luxury bathrooms, patios, butler service, and some even have their own private plunge pools.
For this shoot I kept thinking of a gown that had a slightly mermaid-like vibe and the only gown out there that fully fits this description is the Sierra wedding dress from Truvelle. The sequin-dipped bottom is a total showstopper and looked like a dream as it shimmered in the setting sun. Another must-know detail about this wedding dress… it didn’t need steaming once I got to St. Lucia! I carried it in on the airplane in a duffel bag, shook it out, and it was ready to go. You can’t ask for more from a destination wedding dress.
I wanted a real ‘wow’ for a ceremony backdrop. Something to focus the eyes with all that beautiful ocean in the background so I came up with the idea of a sail filled with wedding vows. Since this was an editorial shoot and not a real wedding I used lines from St. Lucian author Derek Walcott’s Nobel Prize winning epic poem Omeros. The lines speak to the beauty of the island. The team at The Landings procured the boat for me and installed the mast. Mikkel and I trimmed Bougainvillea from around the property for the boat prow to pretty it up a bit.
FLOWERS & JEWELRY & BEAUTY
The Landings coordinated the florist for me and she provided a perfectly tropical bouquet for our bride to carry in addition to a gorgeous centerpiece for the reception table. We wrapped some grey ribbon around the bouquet to match the ribbons on the place setting and we left the ribbon trails long to catch some of that gorgeous Caribbean breeze!
The Landings also coordinated the hair and makeup via their luxury Soleil Spa and they were absolutely amazing. We went with a soft, naturally beautiful look for makeup and for hair – a bun so our bride could still look chic and elegant on the beach.
Jewelry was provided Diamonds International – St Lucia and we used jaw-dropping pieces from their Crown of Light Collection.
The sequin color on the gown guided the rest of the color palette for this St. Lucian beach wedding and Karla from Written Word Calligraphy provided an invitation suite customized to match. She used the architecture of The Landings as her inspiration for the pillars on the RSVP card along with the villas’ ocean view. The map denotes the location of The Landings in the gorgeous northern part of the island near Castries.
THE TABLESCAPE & CATERING
With the Caribbean ocean and flower-adorned boat as a backdrop, The Landings, St Lucia set up an intimate table for two on their private beach and served an array of delicious foods (which we sampled, of course, and OMG yum! Wedding reception food doesn’t get any better than this) and crafted the adorable wedding cake which we topped with a single, blush pink orchid.
The place setting with kept chic and clean with a variety of white dishes and of course no wedding celebration is complete champagne served ice-cold.
