When an event planner and her husband decide to renew their vows you know they aren’t going to go for the usual flowers and reception hall at home sort of deal! Lindsey of Simply Perfect Events and her husband Preston decided to turn their vow renewal into one of the most epic experiences ever in South Africa, complete with elephants, lions, and more!
From the bride, Lindsey – “South Africa is like nothing else in the world. The landscape, the food and wine… it’s all incredible! Where else in the world can you shop handcrafted tribal goods or high-end designer stores, surf world-class waves, go on a safari, watch Southern Wright Whales on their migratory path, and visit wineries?! South Africa is known for wildlife, wine, and whales but there’s so much more to it. Mossel Bay, near where our venue Botlierskop (a game reserve) is.”
From the bride, Lindsey – “The vow renewal was certainly the highlight for me. While we recited heart-felt vows we wrote ourselves (and local vendor April Foster of Paper Dolls printed on lovely cards for us) elephants began to gather in the valley behind Preston. With guards around, we were able to touch a few of them, but had to be cautious because there was a mother with a baby close by, and momma’s are always protective.”
“I had booked a lion walk through Botlierskop’s lion Sanctuary (where orphaned lions are rescued) after the vow renewal. I had envisioned pictures with my flowing ivory dress from House of Maya blowing in the wind, and lions near me. When we arrived, Norman, one of the lion educators laughed and told me it was silly to wear a white dress near lions ‘because they only see in black and white, and you look like a big toy’ yikes! I definitely garnered the most attention from the lions, and a few times Norman or my husband Preston would step in front of me or try to distract them.
Fun fact- when being stared down by a lion, stare back! Do not look away or turn away because you’ll act like prey to them. Staring down a male lion is slightly intimidating…..but it makes for amazing memories! Afterward we returned to our tented suite to have a private dinner on the porch.”
