The world is a big, exciting, and absolutely fascinating place. Deciding on a destination wedding or the fact that you’d like to honeymoon abroad is easy, it’s deciding where to have that destination wedding, honeymoon, or bachelorette weekend getaway with your besties – that’s the hard part!

How to get married in Croatia

Having lived and worked everywhere from Hawaii to Europe to now in the Caribbean … having visited dozens and dozens of destinations (wedding worthy and not so wedding worthy), I can say that Croatia is one of the only destinations I would recommend to anyone without caveats or hesitations who is seeking a destination wedding, honeymoon, or bachelorette weekend.

It’s safe, has an enviable vibe, it’s not overrun with tourists, it’s beyond gorgeous, it has something for EVERYONE, the food is delightful, and Croatia is budget friendly. You can go as glam and over the top as you want or as simple and down to earth as you desire, but a safe estimate is that whatever you do is going to be 20-30% cheaper than anywhere else in Western Europe or the United States.

Whether you want a hotel wedding as your destination wedding venue, a wedding amongst ancient ruins, a wedding in a scenic national park, along the beach, a rooftop venue in the center of a historic town, or on a boat – there’s an option for you in Croatia.

Like getting married anywhere in the world including your own backyard there are some legalities and requirements to do so that you should be mindful of. Check with your home country and the Croatian embassy as to what documents you’ll need to make sure your marriage is legal. Additionally, it’s a good idea to get in touch with a local wedding planner in Croatia who will assist you with everything and take the stress of what is by far the most boring, but arguably one of the most important part of the planning process.

A few tips for destination wedding in Croatia:

  1. You need to have all of the required documents posted to the local town hall in the region in which you wish to be married at least 30 days before your wedding day. Obviously, the earlier the better, however, none of your required documents can be ‘older than’ 90 days. So timing on requesting your certified copies of birth certificates and things like that is important.
  2. All of those documents must be translated into Croatian. Embassies and the local wedding planner you work with will guide you to someone who can do this.
  3. Make sure that your passport is still valid for at least one year after your wedding date.

Getting married in, honeymooning, or having your bachelorette getaway weekend in Croatia is a no-brainer. We loved our experience in so much we chartered the whole boat for next summer to share even more adventures with all of our family and friends.

Now… just imagine how absolutely incredible that would be for a wedding!

While The Croatia Tourist Board sponsored our experience, I am not required to do anything in return. This review is a good one because I would never bother to write about or promote a destination or experience I didn’t care for. All opinions are my own.
