board game wedding: battleship

Since the zodiac wedding inspiration board series ended last Thursday, I thought I’d start another ‘every Thursday’ series since I think everyone (myself included) really enjoyed seeing those!

The inspiration this time is classic board games and today’s gray & red vintage industrial board is based on the game Battleship.

vintage industrial red and gray wedding

I know what you’re thinking… Battleship… not the most romantic theme for a wedding, and you’re right. But I’ve talked about the word inspiration before and for this one it needs mentioning again – inspiration is exactly that. Inspiration. Just because you are inspired by something does not mean that you should translate it literally into your wedding day.

For this Battleship wedding I was inspired by several elements. The gray colors in this inspiration board remind me of the gray plastic boat pieces in the game and the color also references steel. The red is symbolic of the pegs that you placed on your ship when you were hit, and the light bulbs in the marquee sign remind me of all those little round peg holes, as do the fruit candles on the cake.

The game Battleship first started as a paper game that soldiers during WWI would draw out on a grid and then in the 60s it was released as the plastic version that many of us remember from our childhoods. Because of its history I wanted this inspiration board to have a retro/vintage industrial vibe and I tried to achieve that by including the exposed brick wall picture and that gorgeous retro red dress.
