This wedding inspiration shoot from Cherry Bomb Events and Shutter Chic Photography captures the glamorous fun of a Kentucky Derby themed wedding perfectly. With a glamorous hat, stylish and colorful bow ties, mint julep drinks, and horses (of course!) there’s a lot to love here.
From Shayna at Cherry Bomb Events – “We shot this wedding inspiration shoot with two thoroughbred horses, one of which is the grandson of Secretariat!
The vintage inspired gown was handmade by Maggie Evans and features layers of soft lace and tulle. Our bride model also wore a hat and veil by Cynthia Lee Creations. Cynthia is a known name at The Kentucky Derby Museum where she has received the acclaim and coveted honor of the Judges Choice Award and her work consistently appears at the Royal Ascot Racecourse in England and the Kentucky Derby.
Our bride also wore several stunning pieces from Shane Co, including a cascading string of pearls and a 3-piece right hand ring.”
More from Shayna – “Each place setting features a horseshoe place card with a handmade name tag including either a bow tie, a horse, or a heart. The nametags are attached to the horseshoes with twine and place upon handcrafted napkins with lace and ribbon embellishments. Platinum horses, vintage china, crystal stemware, and mint julep glasses completed the place settings.
The iconic red rose of the derby is highlighted in the floral centerpiece in custom trophy-style vases and each table feature a vintage-style teal framed table number. Guests at a wedding like this would be greeted in the barn by a Make Your Own Mint Julep table which are traditionally enjoyed with a metal tumbler and straw, but in our case the crystal really shines against the browns and greens of the barn and floral designs.
The bridal bouquet features pink and peach roses, hydrangea and snaps. This hints to the traditional floral flare of the derby but remains elegant and feminine. Our groom wore a custom bow tie from Carrot and Gibbs and his boutonnière pulls in elements from the bride’s bouquet.
The blue sapphire in the bride’s ring was another great splash of color and underneath all the billowy layers of her wedding dress, she wore boots as a rustic nod to farm weddings in Colorado. No Colorado girl would ride a horse in anything less!
Real life couple Mary and Kyle were amazing models for this shoot. They looked fantastic walking side by side with real thoroughbreds on a beautiful Colorado afternoon.”
