Along with a team of creative wedding pros, Eco-Chic Weddings and Andre Sonnekus Photography imagined a beautiful and unique look for a steampunk themed wedding. Styled around steampunk style wedding invitations by Rude Design, this shoot is beautifully bridal while still being fabulously alternative!
From Eco-Chic Weddings – “We wanted to create a concept that appealed to an offbeat bride but at the same time created a look that was more bridal. To achieve this we chose warm colors instead of the ‘darkness’ that is often associated with steampunk and kept natural elements to soften the look. The richer colors were a beautiful contrast to the wood tints and stone of the venue.
We designed the main floral centerpiece in an asymmetrical fashion to create a bit of imbalance on the table. We used a mixture of Dodda, tulips, roses, fynbos, alstroemeria, hydrangeas, orchids, willow and air plants to create different textures and variations in tones. For some elegance, copper hues were introduced with the use of old fashioned medicine bottles, copper tea light holders and a copper bowl. The metallic played off the natural wood beautifully and the look was finished off with a pop of deep blue. To the keep the style contemporary and fresh we added subtle touches of white in the stationary and table runner.”
From Eco-Chic Weddings – “Rude Design worked closely with us to create the correct color combinations. The stationary suite was created with brides in mind, keeping the look elegant yet the vectors created interesting characteristics that remain true to the steampunk style. Goggle shapes were incorporated into the main design of the save the date as well as Victorian silhouettes, cogs, zepplins and grungy fonts. The stationary formed the foundation for the shoot as it was the first visual element to be complete and Rude Design allowed us all to complement the look and feel of her fantastically created artwork.
Victorian Era-inspired dresses handmade by Immagika Designs brought the entire look to life with their frills and embellishments such as bows, floral lace, charms and beaded details. Rita Conradie complimented the looks of the dresses with the models’ skin tones, bringing deeper reds and bronzes into Blair’s look with her beautiful red hair and keeping Amy’s style more soft and natural.
Accessories such as gas masks, goggles, clockwork necklaces and figurines were provided by Sin-Bin to add the steampunk touch. We kept it all minimal, as we did not want the look to become more gothic or too dark. Everything was chosen to ensure that the entire concept remained bridal, yet interesting and unique to steampunk.”
