From Kathleen (the bride) – “My husband and I are from the Bay Area and soon after getting engaged, we found that trying to plan a local wedding with our modest budget was near impossible. Instead of getting discouraged, we decided to “go for it” and plan a destination wedding in Kauai. We had vacationed there not too long before we got engaged and fell in love with the laid back lifestyle and the lush beautiful scenery. It was heaven on earth for us.”

From Kathleen – “Our vendors were instrumental in the whole day going perfectly. We found an amazing, wonderful, warm wedding planner (Marlene with Mira Mira Events) on the island who made everything effortless for us and kept us on track with our budget.  After that, everything else seemed to fall into place. My day started with my wonderful makeup and hair artist, Mia Moriguchi. She and her two assistant did the hair and makeup for myself, my two bridesmaids, my mother, sister, aunt and grandmother.

Our wedding ceremony was presided over by Niles Kageyama, who achieved the perfect emotional and humorous balance that we wanted. Our ceremony venue, the Kiahuna Plantation, which is also where a large number of our guests stayed prior the wedding, provided a beautiful beach backdrop for our tropical nuptials.  Our reception was held at the National Tropical Botanical Garden, the perfect setting for our intimate, 60-person event.

Our caterer, Contemporary Flavors, fulfilled our desires for casual, Filipino/Hawaiian wedding fare: potato salad, chicken adobo, pan seared swordfish and kalua pork. Our wedding cake was macadamia nut flavored and our “late night treat” was fresh malasadas, served during the dancing portion of our reception. And of course, our photographer Nikita Lee captured so many emotions with her incredible skill and vision. Her ability to freeze the moment is priceless. Thanks to her, we get to relive our wedding whenever we look at our photos.

We had a beautiful destination wedding that personified us in every single way. I wouldn’t change a single thing; even the weather seemed to be on our side. It rained non-stop for two days before the wedding, then to our surprise, the rain stopped just before the ceremony, and started up again perfectly on cue during our first dance underneath the reception tents!”
