What a treat I have for you today! A behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and studio of Alyssa Kristin with a peek at some of her beautiful collection pieces and custom-designed wedding dresses via images by Emilia Jane Photography. It’s a breathtaking look at beauty and creativity.
What do you do in the studio?
Almost everything is done in my studio. Whether that means writing emails and getting down to the business side of things or designing a new collection, all the different aspects of Alyssa Kristin happen in my studio.
Where do you find inspiration?
Fabric is one of my biggest sources of inspiration. I usually pick out fabrics that are unique and interesting, and pull them into the studio. I’ll play with different draping techniques and see how it falls on a dress form. Sometimes I have an idea of what it will look like – other times it ends up completely different! It’s a very organic process.
What can we expect from your next collection?
Texture – lots and lots of texture! My next collection, called Feel the Love, is heavily influenced by the fabrics; again, it’s where I source a lot of my inspiration. Lots of sequins, chiffon appliques, strong detailing – it has a very tactile element that amplifies my aesthetic of using soft color palettes.
Why did you go into bridal design?
It happened when I was searching for my own wedding dress. I felt like a lot of gowns were either one of two extremes – ‘plain Jane’ or too over-the-top. I wanted to create a collection that emphasizes the bride herself and plays up her unique personality.
What does a bride need to consider when selecting a dress?
The most important thing is your vision for the day – and to remember that the venue sets the tone. A clear vision helps everything falls into place: venue, color palette, styling. The dress is an important piece of the puzzle that completes a gorgeous cohesive picture.
What’s your favorite part of the design process?
When it’s all done! I always have yards of fabric lying around, sketches, ideas – seeing a bride try something on that’s a finished product of all this organized chaos, that’s the best.
What’s your favorite dress ever designed?
The Alessandra…but I am a little biased. I designed the gown for my big day and the process lead to the start of Alyssa Kristin!
