a pinterest-planned, DIY summer wedding in austria

From the photographer, Tanja Schalling – “Angelika from Germany and Chris from England met while working for an Austro-German Company in Austria. For their wedding location, however, they didn’t have to go so far.

The beautiful Chateau Schönau is in the very same town they met. So, on a beautiful afternoon in May, they gathered their families and celebrated their love beneath lime trees, with beautiful handmade decorations and a delicious naked cake, decorated with beautiful flowers!”

From the bride, Angelika – “I met Chris at a bus-stop and so it was clear to me when it came to choosing a location for our wedding: the beautiful chateau right across the road from that very bus-stop it had to be!

Because the location is such an inspiration itself there were not a lot of other resources required, though I love Pinterest and had a pinboard to visualise my ideas, surprisingly I even gained a few followers in the process. The biggest inspiration on Pinterest were stories where couples married with only very close family; that’s what we wanted: to keep it simple, small, with the people we love most.”

From the bride, Angelika – “We made all the decoration ourselves, collecting materials from different stores just like Ikea and Depot and spend lovely hours together creating our decorations. It was additional bonding time for us to prepare for our wedding together and it made the wedding really special to us knowing our parents were climbing up the step-ladder, putting pompoms up!

The chairs we sat on when we got married were our own, and it is so nice to sit with my now hubby on these chairs in the garden knowing we got married on them. My dress was from Monsoon; his suit from Next – I never saw myself in an expensive gown that cost a fortune; my attention was on the moment we had with our family and children and the promise we gave ourselves for life!”
