dutch wedding inspiration

From Cecelina Photography – Nestled in the depths of Hertfordshire England is a hidden gem. Affectionately known as the Old Dutch House, it is the large rambling home of well-known Dutch florist Alice Calcasola-Van Der of All In One Season.  Built with love by Alice’s carpenter husband, their Stolpboerderijen style home, features the highly distinctive, square-shaped Dutch farmhouse with a pyramidal roof, barns and trees predominantly found in Noord-Holland.”

“The traditional Dutch inspired farmhouse was the perfect setting for a modern Dutch inspired wedding editorial, which was photographed by myself, international fine art photographer Cecelina Photography. We crafted this inspiration around the story of the proposal and included a variety of clogs, both wooden and porcelain because in the old Dutch tradition, a boy would carve an ornate pair of clogs to leave on the doorstep of where the girl of his dreams lived. If she wore them the next day, it was a sign of her accepting his proposal.

We also found a selection of very hard to come by original teaspoons with small symbols that reference traditional heritage such as windmills, trading boats and tulips.”

“For the wedding table, Alice created a long and sumptuous floral design using imported Dutch flowers including six types of pink roses, amaranthus, mixed succulents and assorted foliage on top of a beautiful hand-woven lace runner. She paired her design with traditional stone charger plates which were topped with “Delft blue” china, lace napkins and cutlery, while bales of hay covered with traditional rugs provided the seating arrangements.”

“For the first look, our bride Callie was dressed in a very soft and romantic off the shoulder lace and tulle dress called ‘Liberty’ by Katya Katya Shehurina. Specially selected by renowned hair and make up artist Boe for its unstructured innocence and movement, it was the perfect foil for the look she created. Callie’s hair was kept soft and flowing, cascading down her back renaissance style and she wore the handmade succulent crown with aplomb. Her make up was kept natural using warm peaches and browns, which complimented her auburn hair perfectly.

The second dress from the same designer was the ‘Magnolia’ dress, chosen to add subtle drama and sophistication. Slightly more formal, its long sleeves featured pin stripe lace and the intricate lace details on the front of the dress is reminiscent of a Dutch traditional wedding dress which complimented our table setting of a Dutch feast. Callie’s hair was braided in a Dutch braid which is 3 strands of hair crossed under instead of over to create a crown effect. Topped with a gold bespoke headpiece, two braids are wrapped across the top of the head, a traditional style dating back thousands of years in Dutch history. Makeup was dewy radiant and fresh, bronzed skin and peachy tones to give a healthy natural look.”

“The cakes, cupcakes, and sweet treats were supplied by Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium. The wedding cake was a 5 tier confection featuring a sage green crackle effect bottom tier, marble effect tiers, sugar roses, sugar succulents and foliage and a gold top tier. She also made a heart shaped cake whose top surface was covered entirely in different shades of sugar succulents.

The dessert table also featured sugar succulent and sugar rose and jeweled cupcakes, meringues and a rustic style buttercream cake with hand piped flowers. It is common practice in The Netherlands to always treat your guests to a wholesome home-cooked meal, when celebrating a special birthday or other occasion. Alice created here a magnificent feast of a tapas style buffet of Dutch Gouda cheeses, pates, breads, meats, olives and fruit, spreading love and joy.”
