southern wedding with must-see foraged flowers

From the Planner, Whitewood Events “Anna came to us with an obvious love and appreciation for the fine details that come with such a special occasion. Her aesthetic was a perfect match for mine, and I immediately felt like we had been long time friends after our first meeting. When I found out that we could have fun with the stationery and she loved the look of film photography, I knew we had to reach out to photographer Sarah Ingram. Luckily, we got her on board, and we have her to thank for those details and capturing the day in the dreamiest of ways!

Anna and Matt decided to have their intimate wedding at their favorite date location, the Five and Ten restaurant in the heart of Five Point in Athens. They had become regulars, and they felt it was the perfect spot to say ‘I Do’, and we can’t argue that it wasn’t ideal and beautiful all in one. Once we had the venue, and I took note of the many mantels and floral possibilities, we knew the only person who could bring those dreams to life was Christy Hulsey of Colonial House of Flowers. She nailed it, with every arrangement, mantel piece, and detail!”

From the Planner, Whitewood Events – “In true southern fashion, the couple invited their closest friends and families to join them on the front porch of the Five and Ten to witness their nuptials. Following a champagne toast on the lawn, we invited everyone inside for a family style dinner. Never have I had such a fancy friend chicken dinner, surrounded by what felt like a full garden in bloom.

Dancing the night away in celebration, our guests were sent home with locally made jarred pickles from Phickle Phickle, and we all sent the happy newlyweds off with sparks flying. It’s these clients that make us love what we do. They come to us with a vision and dream, and we put the team together to make it happen. It was truly the perfect day.”

From the Floral Designer, Christy Hulsey, Colonial House of Flowers – “When the planner introduced me to Anna and her floral vision for the affair, immediately I knew it was a match made in heaven! Our team used seasonal blooms sourced from around the world, locally and from our own garden to create a charming recipe that transformed the famous restaurant into a warm, inviting, naturally elegant space.

Anna described her floral vision as ‘earthy and natural.’ I don’t want it too colorful, she told us. ‘I want a bouquet that looks like I picked it from the garden.’ Not fussy. Not over done, yet beautifully wrapped in hand dyed silk ribbon from Silk & Willow and meaningful.”

From the Floral Designer, Christy Hulsey, Colonial House of Flowers – “The Elaeagnus was intentionally hand collected among the grounds to give the garlands and arrangements a sense of place. Perfect Patience Peonies which only come in season one time of year were abundant… and, used generously among a bed of earthy, seasonal tones and textures.

Foraged blooms were cast about carefully sourced Perfect Patience Blush Peonies that only come once a year, Anemones, Spirea, Ranunculus, and Freesia. To add to the effortless floral atmosphere, every single arrangement was unique. Anna even wanted all of the boutonnieres to have their own personality.”

From the bride, Anna – “Matt and I wanted our wedding day to be an extension of our personalities. As we began the planning process, we knew we wanted something intimate, classic and simple, something that our guests would still be talking about for years to come. We spared nothing as we hosted our closest friends and family at the celebration of our marriage!

After dinner, we danced the night away at what felt like a personal concert performed by Southern Lovin Band, with a guest appearance by my best friends and family singing Shenandoah’s ‘Next to you, Next to Me.’ After the party, we sent our guests home with the most delicious pickles created by a locally owned business in Athens. The wedding truly was the beginning of our happily ever after!”
